Let’s Learn About Hydro Jetting

Clogged pipes, sewer lines, and drains are a nightmare for every homeowner. If left untreated, they can cause severe damage to the plumbing system. While a plunger or a drain snake should fix the minor clogs, you will need to call a plumber for heavier waste blockages. Drain cleaning is the most common and essential service a plumbing contractor provides. Plumbers all over the United States are widely using a new strategy called hydro jetting to tackle serious clogs. This process has been around for decades, but earlier, it was not affordable and required multiple plumbers to perform the job. But now, it has become cost-effective, and the equipment used is small enough for a single plumber to clean the drains.

What is hydro jetting?

Hydro Jetting is a process that uses high-velocity water pressure through the interior surface of blocked or slow sewage lines, and plumbing pipes to clean them off debris, pebbles, grease, mineral deposits, coating materials, and other contaminants. A hydro jet system consists of a pressure pump, a nozzle, to control the water stream, waste handling equipment, and other accessories. This process clears the worst clogs in residential and commercial plumbing and prevents future clogs.

How hydro jetting works

Hydro jetting is a powerful and specialized pressure washing system. Call a plumber to inspect the drains by sending a camera down to evaluate if hydro jetting is required. After checking the situation in the pipes and nature of the clog, he will find a spot from where a hose with a nozzle at the end can be inserted inside the pipe. The hose connects to a large water tank. The nozzle that the professional uses will depend on the size of the drain and the type of clogged material. There is a wide variety of pressure levels available in hydro jetting, and the plumber will choose the correct pressure level depending on the severity of the clog. The high-pressure water is then propelled through the pipe, to cut through all the blocking materials, cleaning it thoroughly. Hydro jetting should only be performed by a licensed plumber, due to the amount of water pressure involved. It also requires the use of protective gear like rubber gloves, a padded apron, coveralls, helmets with eye-shield, and heavy-duty raincoat.

Signs that you might need hydro jetting

You can get rid of costly repairs that come with drain problems when you are aware of the warning signs. If you are experiencing any of the below-mentioned problems, call a plumber:

  • The drains smell bad

  • Slow draining pipes

  • Strange noises like hissing, gurgling, and bubbling in the drain

  • Standing water

Sewer and plumbing issues like tree root blockages and pipe wall build-up require hydro jetting.

No plumbing system is immune to blockages. Hydro jetting is an environmentally friendly process to remove severe drain clogs and the bacteria that settle in the drain without damaging the pipes. It is a long-lasting alternative compared to other solutions.
